The admission office advices the prospective student and guardians regarding admission to SIU. Students and guardians are always welcome and encouraged to visit for individual counseling.
Undergraduate admission Criteria
Admission requirements for undergraduates program are as follows: At least 2.5 grade point in each of the secondary school certificate (SSC) and higher secondary certificate (HSC) from a board of university or equivalent examination. Diploma in Engineering from the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) on a diploma recognized by BTEB with a GPA of 2.5 and above out of 4.00 may be admitted in the B.Sc. Engineering program.
For the purpose of admission, international application are defined as all person who are not citizens of Bangladesh, International applications who seek admission at SIU, must meet the same academic standards for admission as those required of local students. Since there are wider variations in educational systems throughout the world, international application are selected on the basic of their academic work, proficiency in English and Mathematics, probability of success in the chosen curricula and certificate of adequate financial resources.
Transfer of credit
Credits earned at previously attended colleges and university will be evaluated for acceptance toward SIU degrees by faculty members. Transcripts from previously attend institutions must be submitted for evaluation. A student who wishes to seek transfer with has earned edit to other university at home and abroad may be allowed to do so. Credits earned at SIU are accepted by all university at home and abroad. Some of our student have already migrated to foreign university and their credits earned here have been accepted.
Graduate Admission Criteria
1. Master of Business Admission (MBA)
The minimum requirement for eligibility to seek admission into the MBA program is a Bachelor Degree of its equivalent in any field including business, engineering, agriculture or medicine with 5(five) points (with no more than one 3rd division in any examination) calculated as the follows.

Applicants who have passed at least 5 papers in G.C.E. ‘O’ level and 2 papers in ‘A’ level with a bachelor degree may also apply. For such candidates to be eligible to be apply the minimum qualifying grade point average (GPA) in ‘O’ & ‘A’ levels are 2.5 and 2.00 respectively. GPAs for ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level are calculated on a 4 point scale (A=4’ C=2’D=1’E=0). The detailed breakdown is provided in the following table

For certificates from foreign universities, the Sylhet international university will determine equivalence.
2. Master of Law(L.L.M) and Master of Arts in English
Successful completion of L.L.B. (Preliminary and final), BA Honours and Master of Arts (Preliminary) in English program will enable a student to join this program.
General Application Procedures and Application Froms
Students interested in enrolling at SIU should collect in person or bank draft/pay order for TK 500.00 or US $10.00 or equivalent in the name of the Sylhet international university to the dean of school/admission office for an application from and instructions concerning the admission process. The completed application from should be returned to the deans/admission office.
The admission office process application for addition and the applicant are called for an admission test. The dates of these tests are notified from time to time. Accepted applicants must secure their admission and pay necessary fees within 15 days of notification of acceptances.

The Sylhet International University has designed the curriculum and syllabus of the subjects offered in the undergraduate and levels keeping in view the growing technological challenges confronting the nation and the world as a whole. The rules and regulations for undergraduate curricula through course system are applicable for all students.
Number of semesters in an Academic
There will be two semesters, semester I and semester II, in and academic year. In addition to these two regular semesters, there may be a short semester in the intervening period between end of semester I and commencement of semester II. During this short semester, students according to their needs may take additional course either to make up deficiencies in credit and grade point average (GPA) requirements or to fulfill the credits requirements for degree thus spending less time than the normal duration.
Duration of Semester
Duration of each of semester-I and semester-II will ordinarily be six months consisting of 18 weeks academic engagement as detailed as detailed below :

Course Pattern and Credit Structure
The undergraduate and graduate programs are covered through a set of theoretical and laboratory course, fieldwork, design and project/thesis work. Please refer to individual department for course listings.
Assignment of Credits
- Theoretical Courses : one lecture per week per semester will be equivalent to one credit Thus a three credit hour course will have three lectures per week through a semester.
- Laboratory/Field/Design/Project/Thesis work : Credits for laboratory/Field/or design work usually will be half of the theoretical call hours per semester. Credits are also assigned to project/thesis work taken by students. The amount of credits assigned to each of these may vary from discipline to discipline.
Types of courses
General Courses : There will be some general courses compulsory for all undergraduate students in order to provide them a good grounding to become graduate, language proficiency, acquaintance with history and culture of our society, computer skills etc, will be the objectives of theses courses.
Core Courses : In each discipline a number of compulsory courses will be identified as core courses which form the nucleus of a degree programme.
Elective Courses: Apart from the core courses, students will have to complete a number of courses which are elective in nature so that students may have some choice in selecting these curse according to the desired field of concentration.
Internship : The internship program is to be carried out in an organization, usually in the from of applied research work in the relevant area of concentration. The internship program is to be offered at the end of fourth year (Final Year) of study. After completion of 3 months program students are students are allowed one month more to prepare the report and sit for an interview on that program. A 3 credits hour of weight is allotted for the program.
Grading System : The total performance of a student in a given curse is evaluated on the basic of a scheme of continuous assessment is made through homework, assignment, attendance, quizzes etc. a mid semester examination and a semester examination and a semester final examination of three/two hours duration. The distribution of marks for a given courses may be as follows :

The assessment in laboratory/field work courses is made through observation of the student at work in class, viva-voce during laboratory hour and quizzes. For students in engineering subjects, assessment in design/drawing would be done through evolution of a number of projects assigned to students throughout the semester. Each course has a letter grade equivalent to certain to number of grade points.

A students performance is measured by the number of credits that he or she has completed satisfactorily and by the weighted average of the grade points that he or she has achieved a minimum GPA is required to be achieved for satisfactory progress and a minimum number of earned credits should be acquired in order to qualify for a degree.
The course in which a student has obtained D or higher grade will be counted as credits earned by him or her. A student’s who obtains an F grade in any course will have to repeat that course. If a student obtains a grade above F in a course, he/she will not be counted for GPA calculation but will be mentioned on the grade sheet and transcript.

The performance of a student will be evaluated in terms of semester GPA and cumulative grade point average (CGPA) which in grade average for the semester consideration. Candidates will be awarded a degree with honors if their overall (CGPA) in 3.75 or above. Students will be considered to be making normal progress towards a degree if their CGPA for all work attempted is 2.25 or better and if they are good standing towards a degree if thief CGPA for all work attempted is 2.25 or better and if they are good standing with the university.
Students who fail to maintain this minimum rate of progress will not be considered making desirable progress. This can happen when one or more of the following conditions exit :
- Semester GPA falls below 2.25
- Cumulative GPA falls below 2.25
- Earned credits fall below 15 times the number of semesters studied.
All such students can make up deficiencies in GPA and credit requirements by completing course in next semester(s) and making up backlog course, if their be any.
Rules for course offered in short semester
The course offered during the short semester shall be decided according to the recommendation of departments on the basic of essential deficiencies to be made up by a group of students. Other students could be allowed to registrar in those course subject to capacity constraints and satisfaction of prerequisites. students will be allowed to registrar for a maximum of two courses during the short semester. A fee for each credit hour to be registrar will have to be borne by the students who enroll during short semester.
Promotion to next semester supplementary examination
A students is declared to have passed the semester examination when he passes in all the courses of the semester having a minimum GPA 2.00 in each courses. The students declared to have passed the during short semester.
A students having a backlog of more than 4 courses in which he/she failed will not be allowed to register for the next semester. Referred examination on the refereed course or courses will normally be held with the final examination of upcoming semester. The referred examination will cover the entire syllabus of the courses. Those failing in any subject of the referred examination shall have to spear again in the semester final examination and pass the referred subjects. Otherwise the students will not be eligible to registrar for the higher semester. Students of the final year of program will be allowed to appear in not more than 4 courses of twelve credits hours in a supplementary examination held after one month from publication of results of last semester final examination.
All students are expected to attend classes regularly. Sylhet International University believes that regular attendance is necessary for effective learning a students is required at least 70% of all classes held in every course in order to sit for the final examination.
Absence during semester
A students will not be absent from quizzes, tests, mind semester exam etc, during the semester. Such absence will naturally lead to education in points/marks, which will count towards the final grade absence in semester final examination will in F grade.
Award of Degree
The academic council will decide will the minimum credit hour requirement for the award of degree in different school of study. Total credits hours ranging from 120 and 165, depending on the discipline, should be earned to be eligible for graduation. For 2-year master’s program the required hours may be around 70.
Conduct and discipline
A students should conform to high standard of discipline and conduct himself/herself within and outside the premise of the university in a manner befitting the student of a university of natural importance. He or she will show due courtesy and consideration to the teachers and other employees of the university and good neighborliness to his or her fellow students. The students must also pay due attention and courtesy to visitors.
Students scoring less than 2.50 in any course may be allowed an opportunity for improvement either by the course a fresh or by appearing only in the final examination on payment of fees deemed suitable by the university.
